Why LinkedIn is Good For Business

Description: Description: http://i2.cmail2.com/ei/r/31/9AE/F87/151152/csimport/linkedin-a_1.jpgWith social networks like Facebook and Twitter on the rise, businesses must be able to utilize them to their advantage. One social network, LinkedIn, offers unique benefits since it is specifically targeted toward professionals and businesses.

Among the many social networks on the World Wide Web today, one stands out from the pack: LinkedIn. It stands out because it is one of the few (if there are any like it to begin with) that uses the principle behind social networking but adapts it to suit business and professional purposes.

If regular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter can help a business, LinkedIn can do so even more since it is specifically targeted for businesses and professionals. With LinkedIn, you make contacts that are more relevant to your line of work minus the clutter, noise, and nonsense compared to the more social feedback, comments, and discussions you are inevitably going to have from content you put out on Facebook and Twitter.

Another advantage to LinkedIn is that you are more likely to connect with people and businesses that help you move forward be it additional staff, suppliers, or clients. The site’s recommendation feature and referrals from other contacts will help you find what you are looking for faster. Also, you are able to better connect to people who are in your own industry or are doing similar things, allowing you to better assess what else you can do to give your business an added edge.

Using LinkedIn is a definite advantage, regardless of what business you are in. If you are interested in knowing more, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can sit down with you and talk about various custom LinkedIn strategies that meet your specific needs.

Protect Yourself when Banking Online

Description: Description: http://i2.createsend5.com/ei/r/5C/CAC/D4E/160735/csimport/banking-online-c_1.jpgWhile online banking can be a very convenient way for your business to manage and keep track of finances, a weak security system can make it more possible for cyber-thieves and hackers to steal your hard-earned money. It is important to make sure that all possible steps are taken to prevent this from happening.

Online banking is a tool that many businesses utilize because of the ease, efficiency, and convenience it offers. Especially when it comes to small and medium-sized businesses, online banking is a great way to manage and track finances for day-to-day operations.

Edit and Save Outlook 2010′s Read-Only Attachments

Description: Description: Office 2010 Service Pack 1Users who recently upgraded to Outlook 2010 are complaining about a change in behavior in Outlook 2010: When attachments are opened from a message, they are read-only. Users can no longer edit the attachment and save the changes in the back to the message, they need to save the attachment to the hard drive and reattach it.

It’s especially annoying to people who receive images that need rotated – read-only images can’t be rotated.

This “feature” (or design flaw, according to some administrators) was removed because of “reliability issues and data loss problems” with replacing an attachment received from someone with a version that you edited. I suspect most of the data loss came from user error, not Outlook reliability. Many users didn’t understand how this feature worked or what happened to attachments when they were opened. While users who knew how this feature worked were able to use it to their advantage, many more people lost data because they didn’t understand what happened to the document they “just spent all day editing” after they saved and closed it.

For it to work correctly you had to work in a specific order and users often did Step 5 before Step 4 and saved the file to the hidden temp folder.

1.     Open message

2.     Open attachment

3.     Edit attachment

4.     Save and close attachment

5.     Save and close message

Users familiar with this feature don’t want to use Save as, they want it to work like it did before, with the changes to the attachment saving back to the message. This simple feature saves time when working with lots of email attachments and eliminates duplicate copies on the hard drive.

Fortunately, there are solutions to this problem which add just a step or two to the process.

Rule of Thumb

Be careful how you conduct yourself on social media websites (Facebook) because you never who your audience is.  Your current employer could be watching or a potential client could be viewing your posts.  Even worse… If you post that you’re home alone, what kind of repercussions could you face with that?  All of which has potential of affecting your life tremendously…  Use it to your advantage.

NEWS:  Starbucks mobile payments perk past 26M transactions

Description: Description: Starbucks Coffee CompanyStarbucks said 26 million smartphone transactions were made to buy its coffee and other products in less than a year since it started using a mobile payment app, making it the nation's largest mobile payment program.

"The customer response to our mobile apps has been phenomenal," said Adam Brotman, general manager of Starbucks Digital Ventures, in a statement Tuesday. The mobile payment program was recently introduced to Starbucks stores in Canada and will be launched in the U.K. in January.

Starbucks started its bar code-based mobile payment app for iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones in the U.S. in January, then added Android smartphones in June.

A digital reader in a Starbucks store scan a barcodes displayed on the user's smartphone screen. The barcode is linked to a phone app that is backed by the user's Starbucks Card. Users load the card with dollars from a credit card or other account.

The preference for barcode scanning isn't necessarily a rejection of Near Field Communication technology that's being introduced on some smartphones in the U.S. A Starbucks executive said in June that NFC chips aren't widespread enough and could take up to three years to become so, making the barcode scanning Starbucks' preference for now.

Starbucks said it saw 3 million mobile transactions in the first nine weeks of the program starting in January, which doubled to 6 million transactions for the nine weeks starting in October.
