Is Antivirus Dead?

Despite advanced antivirus solutions, cyber criminals continue to launch successful attacks using increasingly sophisticated malware. In the face of numerous high-profile data breaches, companies are fearful of becoming the next target. What can they do to mitigate risk and reduce exposure? Read on to find out.

Plenty of old-school worms and Trojan horses still roam the online world, waiting to infect PCs with outdated operating systems, unpatched server hardware, and people who can’t resist clicking the links in spammy email. Therefore, antivirus still needs to be part of any comprehensive cyber defense plan.

At the same time, however, antivirus software can no longer thwart today’s complex malware, let alone zero-day exploits, of which malware is just one component. Antivirus software uses static signatures to detect malware, and it often takes as long as three months to isolate a given strain and then issue the necessary security patch. According to researchers at McAfee Labs, at least 100,000 new pieces of malware are released in the wild every single day; therefore, this static approach is ineffective (at best) in isolating zero-day exploits, quickly mutating ransomware, or other malware using advanced delivery mechanisms.

In an ideal world, trapping malware requires antivirus and anti-malware working together as part of layered approach to enterprise security. Each solution would still need frequent updates to handle “the proliferation, the pervasiveness, [and] perniciousness of attacks that you have today,” says Laura DiDio, Director, Enterprise Research, Systems Research and Consulting at Strategy Analytics. While a high percentage of organizations struggle to keep their software up to date, according to DiDio, that’s what is required to stay on top of the threat.

Up your Productivity Levels in 2016

Up your Productivity Levels in 2016None of us sets out to be unproductive. Sure, we all have those days where a few drinks the night before leads to a less than stellar day at our desk, or a day off is begging to be spent curled up on the sofa in front of Netflix. But if you’ve noticed a drop in your productivity levels that threatens to encroach on more than the odd day here and there, it’s time to take a look at where you’re going wrong.

Don’t Leave Your Business Open to Cyber Attacks

Simple Steps Businesses Can Take to Protect Themselves from Cyber Crime.

When the World Wide Web launched almost 30 years ago, it generated a lot of buzz about how it would revolutionize the way we do business, but many questioned whether these projections were fact or just grand words.  Today, few can argue that the Internet has transformed business operations. For example, it has changed the way we share information, talk to employees, advertise jobs and sell services and merchandise to customers. It has opened the door to resources from all over the word. It has become such an essential tool for business success that few can afford not to have a Web presence.  But the Internet has done more than change the way we work; it changed the way criminals commit crimes. Cyber criminals view the Internet as a tool they can use to launch daily cyber attacks such as computer viruses, worms, spam, phishing and identity theft, and the Web presence that businesses need to be successful is what makes them vulnerable to these attacks.

NetManage

Stop waiting for your technology to break

When something goes wrong with your IT, everything grinds to a halt. With a standard break/fix service contract, you have to wait for something to break before your provider can fix it. That equation seems to make sense – even though it could easily result in hours of downtime. But what if you could keep your IT from breaking in the first place?

With NetManage services from INFO-TEK, you can expect:

·         Peace of mind – your systems are monitored 24/7

·         Less downtime – we identify and fix issues before they cause problems

·         Fewer disruptions –we provide most services remotely or overnight

·         Predictable budgeting – all-inclusive, all-you-can-use, flat-rate IT services that include hardware and software.
